Using or Installing the 'Social Ads Pro' Firefox extension with FireFox version 4
About 'Socials Ads Pro' - Facebook Ads software (SAPFBSW):
This extension allows you to create multiple Facebook ads for the purpose of split testing your ads. You can split test the ads by title/body combination, image, gender, age, interests/keywords. In the SAP sidebar you can additionally set, though not for split testing, the campaign name, campaign URL, tracking subid(auto-numbering), bid type (CPC/CPM), bid amount, country, state, city, workplaces, relationship status, interested in, languages and birthday targeting. SAPFBSW also let's you save these settings to your PC, so that you can easily modify a single parameter and then rerun the ad creation for a completely new set of ads. This is very handy when creating similar ads for different countries. When ads are created they can be added to an existing campaign or a new campaign can be created by SAPFBSW into which the new ads can be placed.
'Socials Ads Pro' - Facebook Ads software is a FireFox extension, it only works with Firefox, not Internet Explorer, Safari, Google Chrome or any other web browser. But, Firefox is a free web browser developed by the mozilla.org.
There is also a feature to assign your ad a name based on the split testing target parameters that you set. This makes it easy to tell which of your ads are performing without having to open each ad and look at it's demographic/targeting settings. Ads are created in this targeting order - male gender, age, ad text, ad image, female gender, age, ad text, ad image. Combine this with the auto-numbering subid feature and you can create custom URLs for you visitor tracking system. You can start the auto-numbering at any number you wish.
For example let's say you wanted to create and ad using 3 different titles, 3 different bodies, 3 images and target 5 age groups and additionally wanted to split test these ads by gender. That's 270 ads! How long would it take you to create 270 ads? Probably half a day or more of work. 'Socials Ads Pro' - Facebook Ads software can do it easily and in a short time. Far less than the time it would take you. I have created 45 ads in as little as 15 minutes!
To use SAPFBSW you must already have a free Facebook account and you must have manually created at least one 'test' ad, it does not matter if this ad is approved or not it only has to be created so that you have entered payment information into Your Facebook account.
Social Ads Pro has components for Twitter, Facebook and Plenty-Of-Fish (dating web site) and is on a subscription basis for just $19.95 per month. You can find out more or purchase a subscription at http://mrct.ws/socialadspro/.
Possible problem with 'Socials Ads Pro' - Facebook Ads software:
Problem #1) Using SAPFBSW, in Firefox 3 on Windows you try to create ads but no ads are created. You fill in the information in SAPFBSW and click the green and black 'Play/Run' button and nothing happens then after a minute SAPFBSW pops up a message about 'Type: e is undefined' then after closing that window you get another message from SAPFBSW stating that no ads were created and you should restart SAPFBSW, but this just goes into as endless loop. My resolution to this problem was to upgrade to Firefox 4 has noted below. This is a browser issue and NOT a SAPFBSW issue.
Problem #2) Although it's possible that sometimes an error may occur and cause the ad creation process to be halted. It is possible, after you get familiar with SAPFBSW, to resume the ad creation process after the error. One common error is that there are not enough people targeted by the ad. This is usually caused by keywords not generating enough traffic. In this case Facebook will not allow the ad to be created. When this is the cause of the error, on the SAPFBSW sidebar click the 'Stop' button type in more 'keywords' into the keywords text box of the SAPFBSW sidebar then click the 'Resume' button in the SAPFBSW side bar.
UPGRADING TO FIREFOX 4:
If you have Firefox version 3 and wish to upgrade to Firefox version 4 this easiest way, with out losing your favorites, history, etc. :
- Backup your bookmarks, this explains how - http://www.electrictoolbox.com/backup-export-bookmarks-mozilla-firefox-3/
- Create a list of all the add-ons that you have installed by going to Tools:Add-ons:Extensions, include the version number, you may want to do the same for your themes as well.
- As an extra precaution using a web browser other than Firefox, search for and download your extensions from https://addons.mozilla.org/ or where ever you originally downloaded them from and save them to your PC
- You especially want to download, but not install, the SAPFBSW and 'Plenty Of Fish' (SAPPOFSW) extensions
- Download the latest version of FireFox 3 http://mozilla.org, just in case the upgrade doesn't work.
- Download Firefox version 4 http://mozilla.org
- Uninstall Firefox 3, but when it asks if you want to keep your personalization (bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, etc) select the option to keep these items
- Restart you computer
- Install Firefox 4
Don't panic, this article is about getting SAPFBSW to work in Firefox 4 even though immediately after the upgrade, Firefox 4 will tell you that SAPFBSW is not compatible with Firefox 4.
Firefox 4 will very likely tell you that several of your extensions are not compatible with Firefox 4. It will not tell you why and the only recommendation the installer will make is to allow you to search for updates to your extensions. This will most likely be a fruitless effort, but it's worth a shot.
An incompatible extension does not necessarily mean that the extension is no longer functional. All you can do is try enabling the extension and see if it works. If there is a problem starting Firefox after enabling an extension, Firefox should start in safe mode automatically or ask you if you want to try and start in 'Safe Mode'. After starting in 'Safe Mode' you should be able to uninstall or disable the add-on that is causing the problem.
The upgrade to Firefox 4 should now be complete.
Now that you are on Firefox 4 let's start working on adding SAPFBSW.
If you had SAPFBSW installed under Firefox 3, then Firefox 4 (FF/FF4) listed SAPFBSW as an incompatible add-on. After FF4 starts, remove this add-on then restart FF. To remove this add-on:
- click on the orange 'Firefox" menu button in the upper left of the browser window
- click on 'Add-ons'
- click the 'Extensions' icon, looks like a puzzle piece
- locate the extension and click remove/uninstall
- close the 'Add-ons Manage'
- restart FF
In Firefox 3 under the 'View' menu there was a sub menu called 'Sidebar', this is no longer present in FF4. So the problem becomes how to we enable, or turn on, the 'Sidebar' functionality? We will solve this issue with the "All-In-One-Sidebar" extension.
To install the "All-In-One-Sidebar" extension:
- click on the orange "Firefox" button at the upper left corner of the FF4 window
- click on "Add-ons"
- in the search box in the upper right corner enter 'all-in-one sidebar'
- you should see the 'All-in-One Sidebar' extension listed at or near the top of the results.
- click the "Install" button to the right of the extensions title
- click the extensions 'Restart now' link to restart FF
- click on the 'Add-ons Manager' tab
- To the left of the Add-ons search text box there is an icon of a gear (options), click on it
- in the options sub menu click on 'Install Add-on From File...'
- in the 'Select add-on to install' box, browse to the Social Ads Pro Facebook Software extension (fb_1.xpi) which you should have already downloaded has part of backing up FF3 and click on it
- click the 'Open' button
- click the 'Install' button
- click the 'Restart' button/link
- close the 'Add-ons Manager' tab
The installation of the Social Ads Pro Facebook software is now complete.
Then the next thing to do is to display the SAPFBSW sidebar:
- The "All-In-One-Sidebar" added a sidebar to the left side of the FF4 window.
- There are 7 icons on this sidebar
- There is an icon, most likely the bottom one, that when you hover your mouse over it will display the 'tooltip' - 'All available Sidebar Panels'
- Click the 'All available Sidebar Panels' icon/button
- Click on 'Social Ads Pro - Facebook Software' in the submenu
- Now the 'Social Ads Pro - Facebook Software' sidebar is displayed
And that's it, now you have the latest version of Firefox installed with the 'Socials Ads Pro' - Facebook Ads software.
